Short answer: Because Meta/Facebook is shady and screwed us.

In September 2022, just two days before our MatSu Relay event, something “happened” late at night on the personal Facebook page of one our admins. The next morning we woke up to learn her personal page was deactivated for vague reasons and NxNW’s Instagram page was permanently suspended for “violating community guidelines.” After wasting tons of time over a week to get any sort of communication from Meta and find out what happened, the official response remained the same frustrating non-answer. We don’t know what post or action supposedly broke their rules, or whether it had anything to do with what happened on our admin’s personal page (at 3am no less).

Fun fact #1 – Our Instagram and Facebook pages were linked under one ad account and everything posted went on BOTH platforms.

Fun fact #2 – The closest we think we’ve ever come to pushing boundaries with content is stating the name of a team Sexual Relay-tions in a post. A post with no suggestive imagery.

Fun Fact #3 – We have NEVER been suspended or warned in any form, nor have we ever been notified about any post being reported or flagged.

We already have concerns about being part of doom scrolling and how effective social media really is, but NxNW will ABSOLUTELY NOT support shady business interactions where we can at any time have our connection to all our followers severed without warning, clarity, or recourse. We’ve stopped posting, and we DEFINITELY won’t be paying them another penny until a real answer is provided, if ever.

Maybe we’re an early valiant crusader against tyrannical tech platforms. Maybe we’re tilting at windmills. But you wanted to know the reason, and this is the answer.
